First thing you need to remember is that its ok if progress is slow. It takes a long time (years usually) to master something and everyone learns at a different pace. So dont get discouraged if your art isnt going where you want it too, you
will get better if you keep working towards it
Practice drawing traditionally until you get a better understanding of the basics. Take scrap pieces of paper and scribble different shapes over and over again. Its boring as all hell but it does help a lot. When sketching, keep your lines light and short. Messy sketches are completely ok, it doesnt have to look pretty, its there to help you place things. You can make the drawing look clean and pretty when you outline it
Dont be afraid to use reference photos. There is absolutely nothing wrong with using a real life photo or another drawing as a pose reference, as long as you arent tracing it. Breaking things down into basic shapes (as shown in step one of this tutorial:
drawinghub.com/tut/how-to-draw…) helps you plan out the body and place things in the right position. There are tons of free tutorials online when it comes to traditional and digital art, dont be afraid to look some up and ask questions
It wouldnt hurt to read up on the basics of art: anatomy, lighting/shadows, proportions, perspective, composition and colour theory. You dont need to go in depth, but just skim over each and get an understanding of them
If you really want to get into digital art, then I
strongly suggest getting a graphics tablet and a decent art program. Firealpaca is a free, easy to use program with a lot of features and theres plenty of tutorials for it. LeslieLu Marie has some good videos, and one that covers all of the basics:
